Upcoming Conferences
I usually don’t keep an eye out for upcoming conferences, but am trying to be better about it. Here are some upcoming conferences I’m thinking about.
- 3rd International Digital Curation Conference - December in Washington, DC
- Code4Lib 2008 - February in Portland, OR
- PyCon 2008 - March in Chicago, IL
- Best Practices Exchange 2008 - May in Helena, MT
I’ll probably try to present with a friend at PyCon and demonstrate some tools at BPE. I think there are some upcoming NDIIPP meetings, too. January in San Diego, I think. I was hoping for San Fransisco since SD is so played out, but no one asked my opinion. I mean, if I wanted to hang out at a real supercomputer center, I’d head back to Champaign. (Just kidding Robert and David)

I’m headed to DCC in December, despite the somewhat punishing hotel and registration costs. Something Mark Leggott said about JISC being on the right track in so many ways makes me less concerned about the cost. I have high hopes.

Awesome. I’m sure I’ll see you there. 200£ registration is pretty high. Anyway… You know, I think you should change your spelling to Ascii. Now that would be cool!

Oh man, I lost my comment because I got the math problem wrong. Now I hit reload and got the same one: 7 + 7 x 7. By my way of thinking, that’s 98. Unless, of course, the order of operation dictates multiplication before addition, in which case it’s 56. Hmm.
Yes, I’ve fough the askey v. ascii thing for years. Back in the dark ages (aka the 90s) when modems were the hot item, one of the largest manufacturers on the planet was Askey in Taiwan. Wow, was I proud. Wonder what they make now. Condoms, I hope.
Yes, 200 Quid was a bit rich. I’ll be live blogging, and will keep a running pro-rated tally of every minute that is not productive and post the cost.
Well, 98 failed again, so I’ll try 56 …

You’re killing me here. Too funny. You aren’t the first person to have failed the math challenge, but you are the first librarian. I should look into fixing it, I guess. I haven’t had more than a couple of spam comments in the more than 1 year I’ve been using Wordpress, which is pretty impressive.
I think I’ll probably have to read your live blog after the conference as I’ll probably have to try to get a gig busing tables during the conference to pay the registration fee.
56!
